INVEST FIRST AND ASK QUESTIONS LATER
Jim, a guy I knew from the past, a guy a lot of people refer to as Jim the
Trigger. When he is working, Jim is an investment manager like me.
People in the business call him the Trigger, as in hair trigger, because, as a
portfolio manager, he reacts so quickly to a story.This sobriquet is not
necessarily flattering; invest first and ask questions later is what is implied.“
Ready! Fire! Aim!” is the Trigger’s modus vivendi. In a bull market,
when the mongrels are running, it works great. In tougher times
like now, it’s not so effective.
The Trigger is a handsome guy in a sleek, sculptured, California sort
of way.The top three buttons of his fitted shirt are unbuttoned, and his
sports jacket clings to his shoulders. Our eyes meet. Jim’s are haunted
and a little mad, but who is not a little deranged on the terrace of The
The Trigger’s career has experienced a few undulations. He is always
into what is hot, but sometimes gets there a little late or just before
it gets cold.The Trigger is and always has been a momentum investor, a
player in the parlance, and his strength (and his weakness) is that he has
no memory for pain. He unfailingly gravitates to where the fast money
is, and he is capable of putting up enormous numbers in a hot, trending
market. However, in the past he has often followed the lemmings over
the proverbial cliff. I like him, though, because, in the heat of each moment,
he truly believes his own bullshit and doesn’t pretend to be anything
other than what he is—a stock jockey.
I first knew the Trigger in the early 1980s when his aggressive
growth-stock fund was loaded with whisper stocks like the small oil exploration
companies and drillers with names like Three Guys and a
Rig. He was up 40% in 1979 and 65% in 1980, and the money came
pouring in. But then in 1981, when oil overnight went from being
black gold to just another commodity, the Trigger’s fund was down
55%. He almost lost his job, as I remember it, but in 1982 and 1983, he
came back and shot the lights out with the small tech and emerging
growth stocks, his “beloved athletes” as he called them. In those days he
would go to a company presentation, meet the adolescent storyteller,
listen to the pitch, come out saying,“The kid’s a gifted natural athlete, a
winner,” and then buy a couple of hundred thousand shares without
ever seeing a number.
Subsequently, when his beloved athletes died horrible deaths and
the moon balls crashed in the mid-1980s, the Trigger actually did get
fired, but he has a great sense of the game and he always gravitates relentlessly
toward relative strength.Value was in and growth was out, and
he knew he had to change and find new faces to fall in love with. He
caught on with a value investing firm called U3—for Undervalued,
Underowned, and Unloved—which also did risk arbitrage. However,
value was too slow for his blood; the Trigger needed emotion and momentum
in his life. It was hard for him to truly fall in love with a dirty
industrial dog just because it was cheap.
I remember at the time his telling me, “Value sucks and Ben Graham
was a loser. Buying cheap stocks on book value analysis is for
small-minded accountants. I miss the adrenaline rush from an up stock
or running in the shorts with a tail.”This was sacrilege, because (just in
case you don’t know) Benjamin Graham is the god of value investing
and wrote the bible, a book called Security Analysis. So the Trigger left
U3 for an emerging markets boutique, and for a while he actually lived
and operated out of Hong Kong and Eastern Europe. Then came the
Thai baht and Russian debt busts, and the emerging markets became
the submerging markets.
Almost as if it were foreordained, he migrated back to tech in the
late 1990s.Tech was the perfect milieu for the Trigger. Before tonight, I
had last seen him in late 1999 when he ran a tech fund for a big, very
aggressive mutual fund company in Denver.Those were the days when
the new-issue market was on fire, and the Trigger was giving spellbinding
speeches around the country about tech, Internet productivity, and a
new era.The public was pouring money into his fund, and the Trigger
was riding high on the hog. That day he had come for lunch with a
young, statuesque woman on his arm who drank Stolichnaya straightup.
I wondered why he had brought her because she was obviously
bored with the stock talk, although occasionally she shot him languid,
but amorous glances.
The Denver mutual fund company stocked smart, quick, fast-talking,
momentum guys and gals who had heard every story long before I did.
I remember going to visit them once during those days, sitting in a conference
room with half a dozen kid portfolio managers who looked so
young and fresh and innocent that you expected them to still have
braces on their teeth, and realizing that I had nothing to say that interested
them.They thought I was a useless, old fuddy-duddy, and that afternoon
I felt like one. They didn’t care a P/E ratio about valuation,
fundamental change at the margin, or the economy.They wanted stories
about up stocks.They wanted action, stocks on steroids. As the meeting
went on, I realized they weren’t at all innocent.They were baby-faced
killers and it was I who was the innocent. The Trigger’s fund, stuffed
with new issues,was up 85% that year.

Nuclear, Biologic, & Chemical Agents; Weapons of Mass Destruction
INTRODUCTION
For centuries, military forces have utilized nonconventional weapons using various chemical and biologic agents. During World War I, powerful chemical weapons were developed that affected hundreds of thousands of soldiers. Nuclear weapons were first created during World War II with devastating results. Today, thousands of these nuclear, biologic, and chemical weapons of mass destruction are stored in facilities throughout the world. An accident at any of these facilities could result in a large number of civilian casualties. In addition, many terrorist organizations are now actively attempting to purchase, steal, or develop such weapons for their use. As with most mass casualty situations, emergency physicians will be at the forefront of patient care. This chapter attempts to provide specific information regarding the management of nuclear, biologic, and chemical weapons injuries.
NUCLEAR WEAPONS
Introduction
A terrorist attack utilizing a nuclear weapon would most likely involve the detonation of a nuclear bomb or the detonation of a conventional explosive that also dispersed radioactive material (so-called dirty bomb).
General Considerations
The detonation of a nuclear weapon results in a much larger blast area and much hotter fireball than that produced by conventional explosives. If victims survive the blast trauma and thermal burns, they are at risk for radiation injuries. There are four types of radioactive particles that may cause damage when they interact with body tissue:
1. Alpha particles are large particles that are stopped by the epidermis and cause no significant external damage. Internal contamination, from the inhalation or ingestion of contaminated particles, may cause local tissue injury.
2. Beta particles are small particles that can penetrate the superficial skin and cause mild-burn-type injuries.
3. Gamma rays are high-energy particles that can enter tissues easily and cause significant damage to multiple body systems.
4. Neutrons are large particles that are typically produced only during nuclear detonation. Like gamma rays, they cause significant tissue injury.
The effect that radiation will have on the body depends on the type of radiation, the amount of exposure, and the body system involved. Tissues that display higher rates of cellular mitosis, such as the gastrointestinal and hematopoietic systems, are more severely affected. At very high radiation doses, neurovascular effects will also be seen. Radiation injury may cause either abnormal cell function or cell death.
Clinical Findings
A. Symptoms and Signs
The symptoms and signs of radiation exposure occur in three phases: prodromal, latent, and symptomatic.
1. Prodromal phase—Patients will develop nonspecific symptoms of nausea, vomiting, weakness, and fatigue. Symptoms generally last no longer than 24-48 hours. With higher radiation exposures, symptoms will occur earlier and last longer.
2. Latent period—The length of the latent period depends on the dose of radiation and the body system involved (neurologic, several hours; gastrointestinal, 1-7 days; hematopoietic, 2-6 weeks).
3. Symptomatic phase—Symptoms will depend largely on the body system affected, which will depend on the radiation dose. At doses of 0.7-4 gray (Gy), the hematopoietic system will begin to manifest signs and symptoms of bone marrow suppression. Because of their long life span, erythrocytes are less severely affected than are the myeloid and platelet cell lines. Neutropenia and thrombocytopenia may be significant and lead to infectious and hemorrhagic complications. At doses of 6-8 Gy, gastrointestinal symptoms develop. Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea (bloody), and severe fluid and electrolyte imbalances will occur. The neurovascular system becomes affected at doses of 20-40 Gy. Symptoms include headache, mental status changes, hypotension, focal neurologic changes, convulsions, and coma. Exposures in this range are uniformly fatal.
B. Laboratory and X-ray Findings
Obtain a complete blood count with differential for all patients sustaining a radiation injury. Although symptomatic bone marrow suppression may not be evident for some weeks, a drop of the absolute lymphocyte count of 50% at 24-48 hours is indicative of significant exposure. Monitor electrolytes in patients with gastrointestinal symptoms.
Treatment
In the absence of aggressive medical therapy, the LD50 (the dose of radiation that will kill 50% of those exposed) is approximately 3.5 Gy. Aggressive medical care affords improved survival. Treat all life-threatening injuries associated with blast or thermal effects according to standard advanced trauma life support protocols. Perform surgical procedures early to avoid the electrolyte and hematopoietic effects that will occur. Clean wounds extensively and close them as soon as possible to prevent infection. Treat nausea and vomiting with standard antiemetic medications (prochlorperazine, promethazine, ondansetron). Treat fluid and electrolyte abnormalities with appropriate replacement. Anemia and thrombocytopenia can be treated with transfusion therapy. Leukopenia may be treated with hematopoietic growth factors such as sargramostim and filgrastim. In some instances, bone marrow transplantation may be utilized. Follow neutropenic precautions at absolute neutrophil counts below 500. Some authors recommend prophylactic antibiotics at counts below 100. Use broad-spectrum antibiotics to treat infections. Infection is the most common cause of death in radiation patients.

Microwave on full power for about four to five minutes, depending on the power of your oven ours is a 650w oven and takes about roughly four to five minutes somewhere in between that time.
How you choose to serve this Is a matter of personal preference, I normally have mine on wholemeal bread. You can of course add some fresh parsley and sprinkle some ground pepper just to add a bit of flavour.
Omelet
Break two eggs Into a large mug use a fork to whisk them together, until you have a yellow mixture. Put a frying pan on to a medium heat, add some cooking oil corn oil or olive oil which probably the healthiest you don’t need a awful lot of cooking oil, add the mixture and cook it until it looks like a pancake. Turn once during cooking.
You can add some vegetables, If you wish add chopped mushrooms and chopped onions to bulk it up a bit and serve with a sauce of your choosing as a garnish.
Poached Eggs
Boil some water in a saucepan add some salt for flavouring, then slowly lower down the heat in order to simmer the water carefully break an egg into the saucepan and wait until you’re egg has turned white take out using a spoon perforated preferably and serve with toast or a bit of side salad.
Omelet Puff
This is a bit of a spin on the normal omelet recipe what you need to do with this is beat an egg in a cup, once you have done that beat together one tablespoonful of milk, and add some salt to this mixture, fold the egg white into a hot greased frying pan, and place this in the oven until it sets.
While it is still in the frying pan flip it over so it cooks on the other side, to take this recipe one step further you can add some bread crumbs soaked in milk, and add this to the beated yolk, and fold this into the beaten white. And that gives you a bread omelet recipe which makes six in total.

Prison break Finale - Goodbye Michael J. Scofield

For four season we've seen Michael Scofield and his friends had undergone a lot of challenges and near death experience that made the series amazingly different from the others. For the entire duration of the series, they kept on running and being chase by different groups who are trying to manipulate Michael's skills. And even his own family was involved with this.
The final episode of the fourth season was great in the sense that all of those people that were used by the group named The company that were all treated as criminals by the government were given justice and freedom. Freedom that they were innocent from all the crimes that were alleged on them but also free as anybody who can be who ever they want.
The bad guys were punished and served based on the crimes they made. The General was imprisoned and was sentence to death in Fox River. T-bag was also sent back to Fox River even though he claimed as one of the good guys who helped to find scylla and give it to Mr. Kellerman who was believed to be dead but surprisingly he was alive and the one who is in charge in chasing scylla for good. Mrs Cristina Scofield, the mother of Michael, was also killed after Sara shot her at the back.
After four years when the scylla was handed to the authorities. Aside from Sucre who realize his dream to be with his beloved wife Maricruz as well as Benjamin Franklin who loves his family very much and they were together. Also, Alex Mahone have located his wife Pam but he preferred to live with his assistant Agent Lang and Michael's brother Linc, settled down in Panama together with Sophia and his son Lj. And lastly, Sara had delivered her son who's name was Michael Jr. but raise him without his father Michael. Michael died because of his illness brain tumor. Even though it seems to be unhappy but Michael was the only reason that makes everyone connected since they find time to gather together and spend time to visit Michael's grave next to a sea.
Overall the series was nice and great one! No doubt it was the number one tv series in US next to Heroes.
THE IMPACT Accountant OF BEST PRACTICES ON EMPLOYEES
is an overwhelming feeling of discontent, because any kind of change makes
employees nervous about what the impact will be on their jobs. Admittedly, a
primary purpose of using best practices is to reduce the payroll expense in
the accounting department, or at least to handle an increased workload with
the same number of employees. Consequently, employees have a reason to be
concerned.
There are several ways to deal with employee concerns. One is to create a
standard policy of rolling all displaced employees onto a project team that will
be used to implement even more best practices. This approach tends to attract
the best employees to the project team, but also has the disadvantage of eventually
displacing so many employees that there are too many people staffing the
implementation team. The opposite approach is to be up-front about projected
changes to employee jobs and to give a generous amount of both notice and severance
pay to those people who will be displaced. Given the realities of paying
extra money to departing employees and the need for well-staffed implementation
teams, the recommended approach is somewhere in the middle—to retain a
few of the best employees to run new projects, which reduces the amount of severance
that must be paid out to departing employees.
The other problem, which is more of a long-run issue, is communications.
Even after the initial round of layoffs, there will be a continued emphasis on constantly
improving the accounting department’s processes. These changes cannot
take place in a vacuum. Instead, the implementation team must carefully research
the costs and benefits of each prospective best practice, discuss the issue with
those employees who are most knowledgeable about how any changes will
impact the organization as a whole, and rely to a considerable extent on their
advice in regard to whether there should be any implementation at all, and if so,
how the best practice should be modified to fit the organization’s particular circumstances.
Only by making the maximum use of employees’ knowledge and by
paying close attention to their opinions and fears can an implementation team
continually succeed in installing a series of best practices.
Thus, communication is the key—both in handling employee departures in
the short term, while the accounting department is reducing its staffing levels to
match greater levels of efficiency, and in the long run, when employee cooperation
is crucial to continued success.

Rollout Ceremony and First Flight of Raptor 01: The Spirit of America
final assembly area in Lockheed Martin Aeronautical System's B-l building to the newly
constructed B-22 engine noise attenuation facility, called a "hush house," where it underwent
fueling operations and engine runs.
Little more than a month later, on April 9, sporting its patriotic Spirit of America nose art,
the premier F-22A—marked "Raptor 01" on the outer sides of its two vertical tails, the first
of nine EMD aircraft (91-0001)—was publicly unveiled in ceremonies at Lockheed Martin
Aeronautical Systems facility in Marietta, Georgia. During the ceremony, the new fighter
was christened with its official name: Raptor. (Raptors are birds of prey.)
As originally planned, the first of nine EMD F-22A Raptors was scheduled to take place
on or before May 29, 1997. However, a number of minor yet significant gremlins attacked
Raptor 01. Among these problems were aircraft braking and landing gear retraction/extension
difficulties. It took about 3J/2 months to address and correct the difficulties. Finally, in
late August, the aircraft was cleared for ground tests leading up to its first flight.
Earlier, on June 10, the Pratt & Whitney F119-PW-100 engine was granted its initial flight
release. Before Raptor 01 could make its maiden flight, however, it had to complete the
ground tests that included low-, medium-, and high-speed taxi tests. This series of taxi tests
evaluated its nose landing gear wheel steering system, the braking system, and the operation
of the arresting gear at 30, 60, and 110 knots. The instrumentation system on the aircraft
was likewise thoroughly examined during these ground tests.
The long-awaited first flight of the first Raptor occurred on Sunday, September 7,1997 at
Dobbins Air Reserve Base (ARE) in Marietta, Georgia, with F-22A chief test pilot A. Paul
Metz under its cockpit canopy. Liftoff came at 10:18 A.M. local time. Flying chase on the first
flight was fellow contractor pilot Jon Beesley in an F-16 Fighting Falcon and Lt. Col. Steve
Rainey, the first USAF pilot to fly an F-22A, in a second F-16 chase aircraft.
In preparation for the first takeoff, all three aircraft taxied onto the runway. The two
F-16s took off first and started a slow 360° turn back toward the runway. Metz remained
on the runway, making final instrumentation checks with the mission control room
team.
Flight Test Requirements Working Groups
process. The FTRWGs' responsibilities and location were determined by the Lockheed
Martin/Boeing assignment of product and/or technology design responsibility on the
basis of the integrated product team (IPT) philosophy. This enhanced communications
between the various product IPT personnel and the test IPT personnel, particularly in the
early stages of test requirement identification.
The working groups are generally divided by disciplines. The groups had to decide
exactly what had to be tested and who would be doing the tests. The working groups
remain intact throughout the test program, and are responsible for the test conduct, data
analysis, and reporting for their particular technical discipline.
Instrumentation, Data Processing, and Software
Each one of the nine F-22 Raptors to be built in the current EMD phase will be dedicated
to flight test, and each one of these aircraft will be heavily instrumented to record flighttest
data.
Unlike past aircraft development programs, the flight-test IPT was brought in at the very
beginning of the F-22 program (EMD contract award). On other aircraft, the flight test was
normally brought in after the aircraft was built and had to integrate flight-test instrumentation
where it could find room to install it. On the F-22 then, flight-test IPT worked closely
with the aircraft's designers, and the instrumentation incorporated in the original aircraft
design was (and still is) installed during construction of the aircraft. In other words, the
EMD F-22s flying at this writing are fully instrumented.
So with the planned instrumentation already installed as the first EMD F-22 entered
final assembly in March 1997, flight-test IPT was able to start telemetering data to the
Flight Test Control Room in Marietta, Georgia, which began the actual checkout of the data
processing system.
A large orange-colored box with flight instrumentation flies in the EMD F-22's righthand
main weapons bay; armament test aircraft will use a different location. The box,
called the instrumentation data acquisitions package, acquires data from more than 30 remote
units scattered throughout the aircraft. The box contains a high-speed data recorder
that retains all the flight data. It also encrypts and transmits selected parameters back to
the mission control station on the ground via two antennas on the aircraft. The instrumentation
box stays with the aircraft for its entire flight-test life.
The flight-test data processing requirements are split into real-time data collection for
safe and efficient test conduct and postflight data processing. The USAF is responsible for
the real-time collection, while the contractor team is responsible for the postflight processing.
The contractor team and the USAF agreed to use the same computer software program
to collect and process flight-test data in 1991

indeed the life-saving step. But getting well is more than saving
your life. Next comes the more tedious task of finding their
sources. Where did they come from? Why did they invade you so
massively.

exercises are necessary to preve nt injury to your muscles. No smart athlete will
use his hand or leg violently without first warming it up carefully. These light
exercises should dectate as closely as possible the ensuing, more strenuous types
of movements.
How long should you warm up? This depends on several aspects. If you live in a
colder area, or during the cold winter, you have to do longer warm-up exercises
than do those who live in a warmer climate. Longer warming -up exercises than do
those who live in a warmer climate. Longer warming-up is recommended in the
early morning than in the afternoon. Generally, five or ten minutes of war-up
exercises are adequate but some performers need much more. A ballet dancer
spends at least two hours. He commences with very basic movements, gradua lly
but consistently increasing the activityand intensity, until he is ready to make his
appearance.

movement? OR are there other, prevalent essentials in a good fighter? What is a
good fighte r?
To answer these questions: A good fighter is one who can hit his opponent quicker,
harder, without much perceptible effort, and yet avoid being hit. He doesn't only
possess a pair of fast hands and feet or quick body movement but has other
qualities such as nontelegraphic moves, good coordination, perfect balance and
keen awareness. Although some people are endowed with a few of these qualities,
most of these attributes are developed through hard training.
All the strength or power you have developed from your training is wasted if you
are slow and can't make contact. Power and speed go hand-in-hand. A fighter
needs both to be successful.
One immediate way to increase your speed at impact is to "snap" or "whip" your
hand or foot just before contact. It is the same principle as the overhand throw. For
example, if you throw a baseball with a full swing and snap your wrist at the last
movement or the tail end of your swing, the ball will have more velocity than
without the snap. Naturally, the longer swing with a snap will have more
acceleration at the end than a shorter swing with a snap. A 12-foot whip, flung
exactly, will generate more sting than a two-foot whip.
Getting to know your library and librarian
Libraries range from those confined to an intimate room with a single member
of staff to large, split-site collections being used by thousands of people.
Whatever the type, the researcher needs to be able to find what is required
efficiently. This demands an ability to use the facilities for scrutinizing the
holdings and to locate the items required. It is necessary to know the services
on offer and where to go or who to turn to for help.
A library by any other name
Since the mid-1980s there has been a move away from the traditional term
‘library’ in an attempt to reflect the other services and resources that these
centres now offer. Some provide combined library and ICT (information and
communication technology) services. Many libraries have abandoned the
word and adopted terms such as:
• Learning resource centre
• Information service
• Learning centre
Orientation
Library staff may provide a personal tour of the building(s). An alternative may
be a virtual tour, for example, using a video presentation. Whatever the
method, it is advisable to become familiar with the building and collections of
any library of which one is expecting to make repeated use.
Some libraries operate on multiple sites and users should find out about the
method of movement of stock between the sites, the collections and the services
offered by each site. There may be differences in opening times and in the
specialisms of the staff as well as the collections.
Libraries vary in their provision of ICT resources and workstations. It may be
necessary to log on using a network username and password: some may have
computers with Internet access that are available to anyone. Some will provide
laptop zones or wireless networking for use with personal portable computers.
These are all issues that a visitor to a library may need to consider in order to
make best use of the resources on offer.
Some university libraries provide a quiet section of the library with networked
computers for the sole use of researchers. This has the advantage of
being separated from the noise and bustle of the open access computers.
The emphasis of the collection
Although many libraries contain eclectic collections covering all or most subject
areas in a variety of depths, many focus their collections on particular
areas, defined by their users’ interests. ‘Libraries, we must never forget, are
selections, defined by what they exclude’ (MacColl 2006). There are those that
build up archive collections and those that focus solely on current interests.

Robots at work: The present day
operations today. The work that robots do can be classified into
three major categories: the assembly and finishing of products; the movement
of materials and objects; and the performance of work in environmentally
difficult or hazardous situations.
Assembly and finishing of products. The most common single
application of robots is in welding. About one-quarter of all robots used
by industry have this function. Welding robots can have a variety of ap-
pearances, but they tend to consist of one large arm that can rotate in various
directions. At the end of the arm is a welding gun that actually forms
the weld between two pieces of metal.
Closely related types of work now done by robots include cutting,
grinding, polishing, drilling, sanding, painting, spraying, and otherwise treating
the surface of a product. As with welding, activities of this kind are
usually performed by one-armed robots that hang from the ceiling, project
outward from a platform, or reach into a product from some other angle.
Another example in which robots have replaced humans in industrial
operations is on the assembly line. In many industrial plants today,
the assembly line of humans has been replaced by an assembly line of robots
that does the same job, but more safely and more efficiently.
Movement of materials. Many industrial operations involve the lifting
and moving of large, heavy objects over and over again. One way to
perform these operations is with heavy machinery operated by human
workers. But another method that is more efficient and safer is to substitute
robots for the human-operated machinery.
An experimental type of heavy-duty robot is an exoskeleton—a
metallic contraption that surrounds a human worker. The human can step
inside the exoskeleton, placing his or her arms and legs into the corre-
sponding limbs of the exoskeleton. By operating the exoskeleton’s controls,
the human can magnify his or her strength many times, picking up
and handling objects that would otherwise be much too heavy to lift.
Hazardous or remote-duty robots. Robots are commonly used in
places where humans can go only at risk to their own health or where
they cannot go at all. Industries where nuclear materials are used often
make use of robots so that human workers are not exposed to the dangerous
effects of radiation.
Robots have also been useful in space research. In 1976, the space
probes Viking 1 and Viking 2 landed on the planet Mars. These two probes
were some of the most complex and sophisticated robots ever built. Their
job was to analyze the planet’s surface. They did so by using a long arm
to dig into the ground and take out samples of Martian soil. The soil samples
were then transported to one of three chemical laboratories within
the robot, where the soil underwent automated chemical analysis. The results
of these analyses were then transmitted to receiving stations on Earth.
Era of modern surgery
the introduction of anesthesia (techniques to lessen pain), antiseptic methods,
and sterilization of instruments. The discovery of the X ray in 1895
gave surgeons an invaluable diagnostic tool. X rays are a form of radiation
that can penetrate solids and are used to generate images of bones
and other tissues. Diagnoses using X rays were followed by diagnoses
using ultrasound, computerized axial tomography (CAT) scanning, and
magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
Surgery advances in the twentieth century include techniques for
performing blood transfusions, brain and heart operations (such as bypass
surgery and valve replacement), organ transplantation, microsurgery, and
laser surgery. Microsurgery allows surgeons to perform precise, delicate
operations on various body structures while viewing the surgical area
through a microscope. Lasers, high-intensity beams of light focused at
targeted tissues, are used to treat eye disorders, break up kidney stones
and tumors, and remove birthmarks, wrinkles, and spider veins.
Some types of surgery that previously required extensive cutting
through body tissue can now be accomplished using less invasive techniques.
Endoscopic surgery is a method of operating on internal body
structures, such as knee joints or reproductive organs, by passing an instrument
called an endoscope through a body opening or tiny incision.
Tiny surgical instruments and a miniature video camera, allowing viewing
of the area to be operated on, are attached to the endoscope.
